Good afternoon.
So I am a pre med I graduated in Jan 2016 and I have applied to md do schools with not much luck didnt get any interviews.

So during the two years after I graduated I retook physics 1 and 2 at a community college in hopes of using it for grade replacement but I was hit with difficulty because soon after aacomas announced that the grade replacement policy had been changed.

My Aacomas official sci gpa is 2.96 cum 3.15
AAMCAS sci gpa 3.01 and 3.26

I took the mcat once in 2016 score was 496 and then three times after that with a score of 495 495 496 in the hopes of getting above 500 for a chance at do schools.

I am a NJ resident South Asian (indian) low income applicant and I applied to md do and podiatry schools. I was accepted to two podiatry schools nycpm and temple with scholarships. I submitted a deposit for nycpm at this time ( at the request of my mother)

I am really unsure of what to do and I dont know if Ii would like podiatry as well as the jobs after residency. I am positing this comment on multiple forms to give myself the best and most responses possible.

I dont know if I should do an smp at njms or st george's either.

Any all responses would be appreciated.

No to Caribbean.

For any med school it would take a significant MCAT increase and probably a post bac or SMP. Although other people such as @Goro can comment on that much better than I can.

If I were you I would shadow a few podiatrists and see if that is something you would enjoy, that's a great job and you're already accepted with scholarship.

Read this, but after 3x MCAT tries, I think a different career will be better. Pod is indeed an option.

would strongly recommend against Carib unless you know you'd be miserable for the rest of your life without an MD at the end of your name. Its definitely possible for you to go there, do well, and match back into the states, but you will be undertaking significant risk given the debt burden and less-than-stellar match stats.
However, I'll say that because you applied to pod, it shows you're willing to be flexible with future degree titles and if you think you'll enjoy it - go and don't look back. I know many successful pods who love their job and make fairly good money.

You can still get MD title going to Caribbean schools. You're right about an uphill challenge afterwards. Caribbean schools take many more students than they graduate. They weed students out during school. US med schools weed students out before school.

OP, with a 496 MCAT score X3 times, realistically one needs to have close to a 3.8-4.0 cumulative and science GPA to have a chance at lower tiered DO programs. The only other people I have met with that low of MCAT (490-495) who got into DO school was a military vet and the other people were under represented minorities. Do you fit this profile? If so, maybe another application cycle might be a smart choice.

I would do some soul searching to see if you could live with doing a DPM program, and if you could learn to like feet. Most people will tell you to take the Pod acceptance and run with it, but if you do so before fully investigating the field, you will be one of those self loathing Podiatry students who looks over yonder and wonders what could have been if his MCAT was 5-7 points higher.

Alternatively, there are Special masters programs that will accept a low MCAT, but you have to have a good showing in the program and they will accept you to the DO school. Programs like this include VCOM, LECOM, and I think Turo offer these types of programs. Do some research into these, but beware, these are all high risk, high reward programs. You might not be able to get into a DPM program again if you get a bad GPA in the masters program.

Hope this helps, good luck.
