Hey guys! I have finished touching up my applications, and I just need help deciding where to apply. I am a FL resident. 3.4 cGPA 3.3 sGPA, 505 MCAT, 100+ clinical and 100+ non clinical volunteering hours, 1000+ ED scribe hours. 4 letters of rec (2 science prof, 1 non sci prof, 1 DO doc). Extensive work history. In Florida I am applying to the 2 DO schools (Nova and LECOM), but I need guidance in where to apply out of state. Where do I have a good chance? Also I would like to know what people consider top DO schools to be. Thanks!

KCOM
DMU
KCU
TUNCOM
AZCOM
BCOM

I am curious to know why RVU and ATSU are not on your list?

RVU: not crazy about the for profit status; they opened the door for this. That said, I do not actively discourage people from going there. And yes BCOM is a for profit school too...but something about them has impressed me from the beginning in a way that RVU hasn't. I will give RVU credit for requiring their students to take the USMLE...that's forward thinking and is student-centric.

ATSU-SOMA? Not a fan of how they handle their clinical education. Again, I do not actively discourage people from going there.

If BCOM why not ARCOM. It's not for profit, with availability for federal loans, lots of resources, good rotation sites. I think they're very impressive as well if you look into what they've done already, and what they wanna do here in AR.

ARCOM, NYITCOM-AR, ICOM and RVU-UT are brand new. They're black boxes. Generally, new schools need a few years for the Faculty to gel and figure out how to deliver a curriculum. I believe that one of the two AR schools also has required lecture attendance, and the faculty refuse to drop this. This is a sign that they don't take active learning seriously, when we know its benefits.

I do recommend these schools when one has a very low GPA or MCAT.

ARCOM only have required attendance for activities where you actually have to be there like TBL, anatomy lab, OMM lab, FOPC. You say ARCOM is brand new, but that's one of the reasons I asked you why BCOM and not ARCOM because BCOM is only 1 year ahead of ARCOM.

One year in operation is still better than brand new.

Again, I'm not knocking ARCOM...but it's not high on my recommend list.

Thanks for the answers, much appreciated! Could you elaborate on why you can't recommend Nova? Scores?
