So I am going to apply to pharmacy school to enter the fall of 2011. I will be 24 when I enter and have lived in NH my whole life (went to unh). There is MCPHS manchester literally 20 minutes from my house, which is the 3 year accelerated program. There is also MCPHS boston which would be 4 years and I'd have to transfer into. I heard the MCPHS programs aren't too great and I had been contemplating going somewhere far away but am not sure if I want to venture out quite yet. If I apply to other schools I'll have to take 2 semesters of human A&P this summer, which I wouldn't have to do for MCPHS. I want to just get opinions of what other people would do if you were in my shoes, would you take the summer courses and apply elsewhere or go to MCPHS close to home?

Most people will tell you not to put all your eggs in one basket. Take the summer school course so you have more options. Try to be open minded about living elsewhere. The world is a big place, venture out there. You might regret staying home all your life.

Plus, who's to say you'll get into mcphs? You should apply to more than one place to increase your chances of getting in. I mean unless theres some unmentioned binding contract between your school and mcphs that I don't know of, isn't there a chance that you might not get in? not to be negative or anything, but there is a chance right? so you may want to be prepared for anything that might happen.

And just in case you didn't know already, you can only apply to one MCPHS campus. As the above posters mentioned, I would definitely suggest you apply to one other school as a back up.

Why not apply to Husson, University of New England, or University of Rhode Island?

Those are all relatively close to NH.

What about MCPHS do you like so much?

not having to take the PCAT?

Haha no. I just like how close it is to home. And yah, there is a chance I would not get into mcphs but my gpa is pretty solid (3.6) and I have a sort of "in" at mcphs through someone, not GUARANTEED by any means but definitely will give me a solid boost.
