So being paranoid after graduating with a bachelors, I applied to over 16 schools in the northeastern region. To my surprise, thinking i would not get into any, I got 12 interviews and from the 12 recieved 3 acceptances so far. One of the acceptances I had was a school i felt I really liked but my first choice is not interviewing till late jan/early feb. There is alot of other schools on my list which are great on paper but i dont know if i would feel comfortable there. Oh and btw the school I like is asking for a 1000 deposit in about a week and i would hate to lose that much money just to hold a spot. What would you guys do in my situation? Would you just let the school go in hopes that you would like the other schools?

Is the school Jefferson? I'm in the same situation. I loved the interview and really want to go there. I'm just going to bite the bullet and pay the deposit. The way I figure is if the school is as good as I think it is it shouldn't compare to the others I interview at. At the same time, if those wow me even more, then I figure the 1k is worth the difference in education and student life etc I would get in the end from the better school.

Just don't go around throwing 1k deposits at everyone 😛

Ask if they will extend the deadline for paying the deposit. I've heard of several schools allowing this and buying the student a month to go to other interviews.

Haha yeah it is! Its crazy because I even got to know one of the professors really well. I ended up exchanging emails with him/her. Also they give out scholarships and match your deposit!!! It cant get any better than that but I dont think i could bite anymore bullets, I dropped a hefty amount already as it is.

Ill definitely see if they can extend.

like what I said on another thread:

NEVER DECLINE an offer when its the only one youve gotten. YOU can NEVER assume youll get another offer.

You need to realize this. Although rank is important, sometimes, even a number 1 ranked school will not suit you once you've gone for the interview. I know plenty of applicants who have turned down offer from higher ranked schools simply because they realized that the campus is not for them or they get a negative vibe off the faculty there. DO NOT let rank get to you. You need to pay the seat depo for your second choice and interview at the first one.

Of course I am not saying you wont get into your number 1 choice. All Im saying is in this process, you gotta play it safe. Grab on to any opportunity given to you. I mean heck, you're about to take out tons in loans anyways. Whats another measly seat depo? Good luck with your interview!!

Thanks to everyone for their advice. i got an interview offer from my top choice which is awesome but i hear the interview is pretty tough so I think ill have to buckle down and pay the deposit fee. (fingers crossed)
