Need HELP Finding Evening Classes in Chicago

Hopefully people will see this....

I am doing my own pre-med program and want to move on from cc to 4 year. I CANNOT find any school in chicago or surrounding suburbs that offers organic chm I for Spring semester 2012 during evening. Does any one have any advice?? Should I just take it at cc? Am I completely shooting myself in foot by not doing formal post-bacc???

Northwestern's School of Continuing Studies has evening classes. http://www.scs.northwestern.edu/pdp/cpdp/health/admissions.cfm You can enroll in classes without pursuing the prehealth certificate (as a student-at-large).

I don't think organic chemistry I is offered at any time other than the fall or summer quarters, however.

Do you think I should wait for next Fall semester (2012) and begin the sequence then? I would then be taking organic II in Spring 2013, which is around the time I'm planning on taking the MCAT (April-May '13). In the meantime, I would take my physics sequence.

Or, should I take the organic sequence beginning Spring '12 at cc? It is a very good cc with great chem department!

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Some schools do not like you to take pre-reqs at community colleges. Many other schools want to see at least several upper-level science classes at the university level if the pre-reqs are cc. When possible, limit the classes you take at a cc. When in doubt, call the admissions offices of the med schools you may apply to and ask them if they have any problems with the pre-reqs being taken at your cc.

You do not want to take the MCAT without having completed all the pre-reqs. It is much harder to learn the material on your own, not having taken a class than it is to study material you have been taught before. If you take orgo I in fall 2012, and orgo II the next semester, you should be done with it before the MCAT, so the only question is if you will have time to study. Good luck!

Have you checked out Loyola? When I did my postbac there, they used to offer evening classes for orgo I and II. Not sure what sequence they offer for spring semester.

I think I'm having a difficult time because I'm off schedule as far as looking for organic I in Spring semester...as opposed to Fall and doing orgo II in Spring. (I have had this problem from the beginning as I started late.)

If I do decide to do the orgo sequence at 4 year (which I should), I will be enrolling as a student at large, and then probably won't be eligible for a committee letter - does anyone know anything about this or dealt with this before?

Also - I keep reading that physics is better to take right before the MCAT as opposed to organic. It doesn't really seem like I have an option regarding this though (I don't want to wait another year), anyone have advice on this?

Have you checked out Northeastern Illinois University? I know they have evening Bio and Chem courses. Not exactly sure about Orgo II.

I'm planning on doing my entire pre-reqs post-bacc at Northeastern Illinois. I'm extremely impressed with their night course offerings, their location within the city limits (and pretty close to the 90 and 94 highway exits) as well as their low cost for residents of Illinois.

I'm at Loyola now and I wish I would have done the Post-Bac at Northwestern. I hate how the classes are all over the place and none of the lab sections are ever in the evening. It has been a real rollercoaster for me at that school because of the not very non-trad friendly schedule. Let me put it this way I'm going on year 2 and I'm not even half way done with the pre-reqs due to scheduling issues.

Do you know if you have to be admitted into a program there? Do you have contact for an advisor? I wouldn't mind looking into classes there and possibly transferring if more evening/non-trad friendly classes.
