First, I have been searching the forums to find answers to my questions but I still havent gotten definite answers to my questions.

I am going to submit my app as soon as it comes out, but the only things that are going to hold my app is my dat (taking it again in july) and my LOR.

What do i need for LOR? Im thinking of getting my genetics prof., an orthodontist i shadowed, a friend of the family whose a dentist, and my research prof in neurology which i am taking credit for. Is that acceptable or do I need others? Does my research prof. count as a science LOR?

My genetics prof is on research leave and she wont get back till june so i am thinking i wont get the letter in till mid-July. Is that a problem? I should have the rest of letters in the letter service by end of May. I need to have my app in as soon as possible since my gpa is a bit of the low side.

I am retaking the DAT in the first week of July. I receieved a 20AA and 20PAT, however my gpa is a 3.3 for both overall and science which is why i am retaking it again. Will scores still look at my app even though I am taking it again.

My overall concern, if you can not tell, is will my app be late if my DAT and my last LOR comes in by end of July? I really need to have my app in as early as possible but that last LOR and DAT is stopping that.

Thanks for your help!

Okay as is with a 20AA and 20 PAT you are competitive. When I was applying I met a director of admissions to the dental school I ended up going to. He told me to be considered early/competitive you should have your complete application in before 4th of July break. If I were you I would send in your current DAT scores. Also there are no gurantees you will for sure do better, and I would not hold up my application based on that. In terms of the LOR, many (if not all) school will not evaluate your application until it is complete which includes your LOR. Also if you are sending it through AADSAS than there is a 3 week delay from them getting it, processing, and sending it to your schools. So I would get on that ASAP. I know people with a 3.8 GPA competitive DAT scores get rejected from every school because they waited too long to apply.

Sajitude, i am worried that my DAT isnt high enough since my gpa is low. Can i send in my scores and still let them know that I will take it again? And for the LOR, do you know if the letter service offered by the school goes through AADSAS or do they just send them out to schools that you applied to? That delay going through AADSAS will probably hurt me since the LOR from my genetics prof. is crucial.

dude first off ur scores are competitive...depends where u want to go..i had scores that were a little lower than urs and i got in..unless ur picky about where u wanna go...so i recommend not to retake the exam cause ur scores are steller...as far as for the letter of recs go..ur goin to need 2 science and 1 from either dentist/ortho...research most of the time doesnt count, sometimes it does..it just depends on the school really...just get ur LORs done asap so that u can turn it in to ADDSAS....within the month of july u should be fine...but let me warn u if u decide to do that..u have to make sure that ur professor is on it ASAP..because there have been situations with other students in which the prof had taken so much time to write it..they turned it in late...remember they wont review ur app until everything is turned in..the process itself takes weeks..so the sooner the better...hope this helped🙂
