this thread is more directed toward those who are students at columbia right now:

i'm planning on volunteering abroad this summer and will be basically out of the country from may till the middle of august. i know that our orientation this year starts on aug 24 and i will definitely be back in time for the white coat ceremony etc., but i was wondering if there is anything else that we need to attend before the 1-week orientation at the end of august. i just want to make sure i don't have to go to nyc until orientation at the end of august..

theres no reason to have to come to nyc before orientation week. But just be sure that someone is able to get your mail. I think the housing applications came out in may or june... i really don't remember. Those are something that you need to get sent back in as soon as you get them.
