it is malonic ester problem
so you add the CH3CH2 in the alpha carbon position
then you add acid to make OEt to OH
then you heat it to get rid of acid part that are left of alpha carbon
(heating it does B-decarboxylation)
then you will have carboxylic acid + CH3CH2 you just added
so A

if you have Chad's video i think towards the end of chapter 4 will have lecture about this
 
Wow I never heard of this before. i didn't do chad because I took orgoman's class and I don't think he covered this, or maybe I don't remember lol. hopefully it won't come up on my test lol
 
yeah he did covered this almost at the end of the orgo lecture. We have almost same question on our note saying it's direct hit.
