I have to write a paper for my English class throughout the semester and have no idea what topic to write about

I plan on going to pharmacy school and the teacher recommended that we wrote on something pertaining to our major or educational goal. I would like to write something pharmacy related like something on drugs. So if anyone could suggest me a topic that isn't to widely covered and that there is enough information available on to get me a good 3k words about I would really appreciate it.

I would go with something that you have some information on already so your research wouldn't have to be that extensive. For my English Comp II class I took last year my major paper for the semester involved nonconcented use of an experimental artificial blood on trauma patients. Not only was I able to bring in information from other classes such as bio and A&P into the topic but I was also able to debate the ethics of it as well.

Good luck trying to find an interesting topic!

What is your prompt?

Argumentative, Compare/Contrast, Research, ...??

I personally wouldn't mind seeing a paper on inhalable insulin, but that's just me.

its a research paper

I am currently in my second semester of human a&p and also in microbiology

is there some topic in either of those classes that anyone remembers being especially hard that i could possibly do a research paper on and benefit from in my classes?

I assume that the hardest topic in human a&p that we are gonna cover is the nervous system. I think the nervous system plays a big part in how drugs work. I guess i would benefit from doing something related to that

and microbiology, i think theres lots of drug related stuff in there

anyone have any other possible research paper topics that would sort of interconnect the classes im in and help with my learning of the topics as well?

i'm writing a research paper in one of my classes on the correlation between postmenopausal hormone therapy and increased breast cancer risk in women. there's a suggestion

I did my English Comp research paper on the ethics of medicating children with psychotropic meds with a specific focus on stimulants.

Another hot topic could be direct-to-consumer marketing by pharmaceutical companies and the various issues related to that. Look into it and pick one issue if your professor thinks that's too broad.

You can do something on Medicare and recent changes in the program. YOu could make it broad and do the whole program (such as parts A,B,C and D) or just concentrate on part D which is the prescription drug component.

How about a topic which is near and dear to my heart (not really)...drug reps and their effect on physician's prescribing habits.

But if you want to stick to micro and A&P topics, maybe...

Immunizations (i.e. development of, social component, treatment of infectious diseases across the world). Gardasil is a controversial one here in the US.

Money and politics in drug development.

Pharmacogenomics and the concept of "personalized medicine"...that's another interesting topic.

Use of antibodies in medical imaging and therapy. i.e. ProstaScint, Zevalin, Bexxar. I personally like that one 😉

First thing that popped into my head is an article that I saw earlier today about a new antiretroviral that was just approved by the FDA.

You could spin this info two ways: You could talk about antiviral meds, how they work, and why new ones need to be continuously developed for HIV patients. Or, you could focus on the FDA drug approval process from start to finish - there are a lot of people that aren't aware of how much time and money it takes to get a drug to market.

Just a thought. Good luck! :luck:
