Hey everyone,

I am already accepted into a dental school for 2011, as oos student. However due to some personal problems and the school distance from my home state I am thinking not to go to that school. I have also paid my deposit to reserve a seat. I was just thinking that before the school starts I should re take the DAT and apply for 2012 cycle. And if i do worse this time in DAT I will go to the school that I have been already accepted to. My question is if I register for the DAT again does that automaticly cancel my admission from the school where I am accepted and have paid the deposit. If no what are the cons? Do I have to let the school know that I am reataking the dat? Also if I apply for Financial aid right now and I get approve for the loan do I have to take that loan? If I decide not to go to the school in 2011 and go to the school in 2012 when I reapply for the loan does this affect my eligibility for the loan?

you can re-take it and then have your scores sent to them. but at this point, you need to have interviewed with them already, and you need to make sure they haven't already picked the class: some places are already done. and also, unless your dat was pretty weak, i can't see it really making much difference.

bump...... i edited the post... please help me.

I don't know your entire situation, nor do I have any of the answers to the questions that you've asked, but if I were you I'd really think long and hard about not accepting your acceptance this cycle if you are serious about going to Dental School... How can you be sure that even if you increase your DAT score that you'll get accepted next cycle?

I know a girl who got accepted to a school 2 cycles ago, and thought she could do better than that school, and reapplied this cycle- and still didn't get in to her first choice school... getting into Dental school is such a crap shoot and many qualified people don't get in.

Lucky you! I say defer your admission to following year. Sort out your problems during that year and start school by 2012. I am not sure admission deferment is possible in every school.

Thanks for the opinion guys !! Personally I would not like to let the admission go as well. However my question is if I retake the DAT right now the school that I am accepted to can cancel my admission despite of the fact that I have paid the deposit to reserve my seat?If i don't do batter in DAT then I am def planing to go to that school !! So if the school can cancel my admission I wouldn't like to take the risk.

P.S.: Deferment is not allowed in the school I am accepted to.

i'd call up the school and ask, anonymously of course.

i doubt they'd revoke your admission for it, but they certainly could, especially if you do worse.

don't worry about loans, none of this will affect them and it can all be sorted out.

I've never heard of anyone taking the DAT again after they have been accepted somewhere... but my inclination is that the school wouldn't just cancel your acceptance. Better to call and find out for sure though.

Is there a reason to believe that ds will be oblivious to the behind scene machinations? Even with a 30, there is no guarantee that you will be able to land your 1st or, for that matter, the nth choice
