Hey guys I am an osteopathic student applying for MD Internal Medicine positions. I have good USMLE scores: Step I (230) Step II (246) and passed Step 2 CS. Unfortunately, not so good for COMLEX Step 2 PE, failed the humanistic portion and had to retake it (and hopefully passed it this time). COMLEX step 1 of 612 and Step 2 CE of 640.

Although I still have 2 months left for allopathic applications, I was wondering if I should bother to report my comlex scores in my application. I have heard that we are not technically required to report our comlex if we dont want to. At the same time, I am thinking if it would look bad on the application. Will the residency programs start to wonder why she's not reporting her comlex scores? Also, what if they ask during the interview about comlex scores?Thank you guys any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated....

Did you already re-take the PE?

If so, you might wait until the score is released and then pose this question again. With an outstanding failing score I think the answer is definitely 'no' for now. If you release your NBOME transcript it is all or nothing so every score will be displayed. ACGME programs can't upload your application until September so you have some time. If you pass the second time around, I would lean towards releasing them. On the other hand, however, your USMLE scores are very competitive so programs might not care what your comlex scores are.

Tough situation..good luck! Hopefully some folks with experience from the other side of the coin (PD's, admins, etc..) can give you some ideas.

Yeah I retook it and pretty sure I passed it. The last time I took it I didn't take enough time to close the patient encounter and I believe that was my downfall. Has anyone has had same experience where they didn't report comlex and it was okay? I'm worried if they bring up why you didn't report comlex and me having to tell them oh I failed the PE on the first try. I still can't get over how I failed this PE while cruising through the step 2 CS....

Wait..you took step II CS?

Yeah I took everything for both comlex and USMLE

If it makes you feel better, my reviewers would only look at your USMLE scores, even if you provided both. We only use COMLEX if the application is otherwise very strong and the applicant did not take the USMLE exams. However, I'm not sure how common that attitude is among other programs that are more DO-friendly than mine is.

Alright. Thank you! It definitely makes me feel a little better about this situation...
