Need Help With List of Medical Schools!?!?!?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Penn state takes quite a few OOS students.

If you have UMDNJ, why not add RWJ?

If you like the location, Dartmouth, University of Vermont.

UCONN is not that friendly to OOS.

Quinnipiac is another new school in CT.

You have Northwestern, but no other Chicago schools. There are more you can add.

thanks for the quick response!

-I'll add RWJ (wasn't too familiar with the NJ med school system).
-VT and NH are just not for me in terms of location.
-Thing about Quinnipiac that I don't like is that they aim to push students towards primary care, I'd like to be a specialist.

How about UChicago? My thought process for Illinois is that If I'm going that far away, it would only be if I got accepted to a school very high on my list

Right now you have almost 30 schools in your list. If you have the time/energy/money to apply to all of those, then you should go for it, but for most people a realistic number of applications is around 20. Your stats are good for the mid-tiers you have on your list. The upper tiers (Columbia, Penn, Cornell, etc) will be a bit tough with your MCAT and without more EC's.

If you haven't already, considering buying the MSAR. There's is a ton of valuable information in there, including average and 10th/90th percentile stats and such.

yea, I definitely realize that I have slim chances at those eof them a safety for me?

yea, I definitely realize that I have slim chances at those especially with that MCAT. But i'd rather apply to a lot of reach schools with hopes to increase my chances of getting into one. Any "safety" schools you think I can remove from the list? Or are none of them a safety for me?

I would only remove any school you would not attend in the case it was the only school you got into. Otherwise, I would keep all of your non-super selectiveschools. You are applying to a lot of schools you have an incredibly slim chance at, but you understand this and money does not appear to be an issue for you, so that is fine.

I'm thinking of remov too risky right? Thoughts?

It's entirely up to you. If you don't see yourself going to Albany even if it were the only school you got into, then sure, remove it. I will reiterate that your list is still quite top heavy

I would recommend cutting Brown at the very least, as they have a tiny class reserved for basically non-trads. GWU and BU both receive a ton of applications and so are pretty liberal with screening and unless you've indicted some sort of direct interest in their school, don't bet on getting interviews with them. The top-tiers are crapshoots for everyone, but from your brief description of your EC's there is nothing that stands out that they might be potentially interested in to overcome the fact that you don't have a 35+ MCAT.

That said, your reach and 'good fit' school list is very robust and you will likely get many interviews. "Safety" schools don't really exist unfortunately. Your chances are best at the schools where your stats are most in line with the school's medians.
