Hi guys,
I applied in the summer of 2011, and I have landed 3 interviews. So far, all 3 of them I am on the alternate list. Now, as a backup plan, I plan to apply to a Master's program for this fall (I haven't applied yet, I hope it is not too late). This is so that in case I did not make any dental schools, I will have something to do for at least the next year.

Now, onto my questions.
-If I reapply, would I need to resubmit all of my letter of recommendations? If so, could I ask the same people?
-If I get accepted after a year during my Master's program, can I proceed to go to dental school and continue on my Master's degree after I graduate?
-Is it okay to pursue almost any Master's degree for the purpose of applying to dental schools? What I mean is that, is there any Master's program(s) that dental schools don't regard so highly upon?

Thank you very much!

Q1: Yes you can ask the same people. I think you have to resubmit but not 100% sure.
Q2: This one is a little tricky. I was told that dental schools don't like it when you just leave a program. But this is one opinion so don't take it too seriously. But would you really want to finish a masters after going through four years of dental school?
Q3: If your GPA isn't a problem, you can go for any Masters I think. But it looks better if you do something sci related or at least public health/health related. If GPA is a problem, then do a biology related Masters.

Good luck

Hi, this is my opinion.
1. I also applied twice and got letters from the same professors. However, I asked them to write a little differently including recent activities because I rewrote the personal essay. I just showed them how much I made efforts for last 2 years and asked them to know about it.

2. I guess that depends on admission decision because everyone's acceptance is contingent. If they want you to finish at least one semester or more, then you might have to stay in the school for a little bit. I think it is not a bad idea to have your Master degree until you start the dental school. But just know this. If you have problems with your GPA in the undergraduate, and you are going to improve your GPA in the graduate school, then you have to have better GPA in the graduate school before you reapply for dentistry. If not, the same thing might take place because you would not show them your improvement until finishing one or two semester in your master program. This is exactly the same as what my prehealth advisor told me when I was thinking of going to graduate school. please no offense.

3. If I were you, then I will probably seek programs of biology/chemistry/health-related science.and,, if you wanna start Master program this fall, then do it right now. It's kinda late now.

But, you are an alternate in 3 schools. So I wish you get in. Good Luck!!

Thank you for the prompt replies guys, I want to apply for an M.S. program if possible. However, as for now, most schools only have their M.A. programs open because it is pretty late in the cycle... that's why I'm considering to apply for Master's that's not really health science related. Also, can I submit my application first and submit the GRE later? Is the process quite similar with the DAT submission?

Again, thanks so much!

You can apply first, then submit GRE later. But you should submit soon after you apply. I don't know you had GRE before, but just know. New GRE....is not easy..Anyway, If you want to apply for master program, just do it sooner. and call them first for making sure. every school had different deadline for letters, grades and financial aids.

Thanks for the replies guys!
I'm thinking of applying for an MS in oral biology. Is this a good idea? Does anyone know if the program is competitive in general?
