Hey Everyone!
I am a little late to the game but I am finalizing my school list while I apply this cycle. I could use any feedback as I am funding this cycle by myself and don't want to throw money away applying to schools I have no shot at!
A little about me!
1. GPA : 3.94 GPA 3.95 sGPA
2. 511 MCAT (129/126/126/130) regret not taking it again.
3. Graduated with Public Health degree from Top Honors College in US and won 5 scholarships
4. 1,200 hours as a Hospice CNA since freshman year
5. 600 hours as a volunteer scribe in rural cardiology clinic
6. 250 hours volunteering in the ER, 100 hours volunteering in a cardiology clinic (Separate from the one above)
7. Expected 2,000 hours as a medical assistant for a nephrologist (been working here since Feb of this year and plan to continue in my gap year)
8. 300 hours of research working in Sexual Health and Reproductive Lab and Gerontology Lab + one publication (3rd author) --- ( I have a small amount of wet lab experience but the lab director ended up getting fired and the new one didn't want undergraduates so I only got to work for one semester of my sophomore year) not sure if I should include that?)
9. Public Health Internship at local hospital (same one I volunteered in the ER at) 350 hours
10. 400 hours working as a lead volunteer for a student organization that cooks meals for the homeless, 60 hours of hospice volunteering
11. Co-founded a club and served as director of community outreach at my school for students interested in Rural Health and partnered with local non-profit and the cardiology clinic I volunteered at for resources for screening clinics, volunteer events, guest speakers, etc. (Probably 300 hours)
12. Ran the Boston Marathon this year in 3:04 not sure how to include this but running is a huge part of my identity and i worked my butt off to qualify and train
13. General Chemistry Lab Teaching Assistant/ Tutor for 3 semesters (200 hours)
14. Studied abroad in Belize for a summer where I shadowed various surgeries and witnessed healthcare in a different setting (did not do any sort of direct patient care so I am not worried about this not being ethical)
15. Was on student government my freshmen year (I don't know if I should put this in)
I am really interested in rural/public/community health as well as preventative medicine and cardiology
My current list:
Also considering adding Cinicinnati, Penn State, Temple, Drexel, NYMC, UNC, Wright State, VCU, East Virginia.
Maybe Emory? I won't get in but I like the public health aspect.
Thanks!
