Hey everyone!
Stats: 3.3 cGpa 3.1 sGPA 507 MCAT, (upward trend 4.0 last 24 credit hours science), good EC's, many volunteer+healthcare and work hours, and DO shadowing+letter.
I'm planning to apply to these schools:
WVSOM
MUCOM
DMU
Western
UIWSOM
ATSU KCOM
BCOM
ATSU SOMA
LECOM
RVU
CCOM
CHSUCOM
LECOM
TUNCOM
ARCOM
ACOM
BCOM
NYIT
Any other suggestions or removals?
My true dilemma is that I'm entering the MAMS program in Loyola, which has a good reputation around the Midwest, but they prefer for their students to apply the following year because of the guaranteed interview at Stritch, and the fact that they have a year to spruce up your application by writing a committee letter along with new rec letters, one on one advising for the entire app, and increased volunteer and community hours.
I'm stuck right now because the sticker price is $50k and there's a chance (obviously not a guarantee) I could be accepted to one of these DO schools before my year ends thus negating the true benefits of the program. They promote the glide year because schools have a whole year of grades along with an improved app to look at (many people retake the MCAT and score higher), thus a lot of the grads end up being accepted into other MD and DO programs.
Am I crazy for trying to rush this process? With the merger is applying to some of these DO schools smart? Or should I be grateful for anything coming my way since my stats are not stellar at all?
Thank you so much in advance and I appreciate any criticism to my suggested plan!
