Hi everyone,

An applicant for the 2016 cycle here. I'm struggling to make a list of schools given my stats and was wondering if anyone could help out.

My current list:

Albert Einstein Medical College (Reach)

Columbia (Reach)

Hofstra (Target)

Mount Sinai (Reach)

NYMC (s)

NYU (Reach)

SUNY Downstate (Target)

SUNY Upstate (Target)

Rochester (Target)

Tulane (Target)

Cornell (Reach)

Georgetown (Target)

GWU (Target)

Medical College of Georgia (Target)

Mercer (s)

Emory (Reach)

Morehouse (s)

University of Arizona (Target)

University of Arizona, Phoenix (Target)

Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (Target)

Howard University (s)

University of Miami (Reach)

Medical College of Wisconsin (Target)

University of Utah (Target)

Wake Forest University (Target)

University of New Mexico (Target)

University of Missouri, Kansas City (s)

University of North Dakota (Target)

Drexel (Target)

Temple (Target)

Jefferson (Target)

Penn State (Target)

Case Western Reserve (Target)

Loyola (s)

Rush (s)

Dartmouth (Reach)

Wayne State (s)

Any suggestions? I'm looking for private schools that have strong research interests where my background may help me out.

N. Dakota, Missouri, New Mexico, Utah, Downstate, Upstate - will all have state bias against you since you're from GA. Howard is mission based - unless you are urm or fit their mission, don't apply. Case western is a big reach; Rochester is a reach as well.

Look for more private schools with lower stats and add them. Albany, TCMC, EVMS, VCU are some that come to mind.

Too many people are aiming way high this year. As gyngyn said, add some actual safeties. Not schools where just because half the class is URM you think you can get in (Morehouse, Howard). It seems like some of your reach schools are super reaches, and some of your target schools are reach.

If you are a URM this list makes some sense........if not time to re-consider. As is the case with all Ivy graduates and those from other top schools talk to your advisors. There definitely is some kind of indirect record of how their students do come medical school admission and you can see how each kind of student did given their GPA. While you have done solid research, when talking research oriented schools(ie the big names at the top of the rankings) your research experience isn't something that will stand out in that kind of applicant pool.

Here's something more realistic for schools to consider.
Temple
Drexel
Jefferson
VCU
Virginia Tech
Eastern Virginia
Loyola
Rush
MCW
Tulane
Georgetown
George Washington
New York Medical College
Oakland
Western Michigan
Mt. Sinai
Case Western
USC
Einstein
Rochester
Emory
Miami
Cincinnati
NYU
Wake Forest
UVA
Ohio State
State schools which are actually a fit for you

Ivy name won't carry you to top med schools with a 31 MCAT.
