Hi,

I recently found this forum and it seems to be very helpful. I am an undergrad student about to graduate from Syracuse University with bachelor in Biology BS. I am very interested in applying to dental school but I know it takes a lot of work to get there. I have taken most of my prereq's in undergrad and have done average....not spectactular. (Overall gpa 2.8 Science Gpa 2.5) Not the best I would say since I wasn't sure about dental at that time. I am missing Organic Chemistry though which I know is a big part of the DAT.

I was thinking about doing part time classes to fulfill my requirements and possibly take higher science courses, while preparing for DAT, and volunteering at a dental place. How do you think dental school's would look at this? Is it more beneficial for me to take a postbac program?

One major con about a postbac program is that it is very costly which would be hard to afford.

Anyone's advice would be greatly appreciated!!

hate to be a bearer of bad news but you almost have zero shot at getting in with that GPA... you will need to look into doing a PostBacc/SMP/Masters to boost your GPA. on top of that, you will have to crush your DAT, ~21-22+

I think you need a 4.0 SMP to have any chance.
