Hey guys,

I'm applying for the 2007 route. I can't my DAT until July. Would this affect my application status. Someone told me that my application will not be looked at until my DAT score is in. Is this true??

😕

It is true your application is not complete until our DAT scores are received. However if you submit your application in May and send your DAT scores in July you should be okay. If you try to submit your application after you take the DAT you are putting yourself in a tougher situation.

Can you take the dat before the application comes out? (as in before may)? Or do you have to have your app sumbited first?

Submit your app early! Register with AADSAS, complete your app in its entirety, and on the DAT page, just put in July 2006 under future test date...that will allow you to submit the app without having taken the DAT yet. Do not wait!

Take the DAT in July, and send in the score reports to the schools as they require it, also follow up with AADSAS and make sure they receive your scores.

Sidenote for the last poster - yes, you can take the DAT anyday of the year, even tomorrow if you want to. Before or after the application, doesn't matter...preferrably before so that you have everything together when you submit and won't have to worry about tracking things down later.

The application is only incomplete at the dental school admissons level. Since dental schools want everything, the AADSAS application, LOR, DAT scores, fees etc.

But you can fill out and submitt the AADSAS application without the DAT score or LOR. AADSAS will take 2-4 weeks verifying your GPA and another 4-6 weeks sending it to the schools. So aaply early even if you have not taken the DAT yet. The DAT are sent through ADA wich only takes 1-2 weeks to send your scores. Plus since you get a print out of your scores right after you take the DAT you can add them in to your AADSAS appication and they will send an update to the dental schools. The same goes for LOR. AADSAS will send off your application without them and when you send them the LOR they will send an uptade to the dent schools.

Schools wont even look at you until your entire file is complete. My printout was mailed in Sept, but I didnt get my last LOR until December, so I was very late in getting interviews and stuff. But if you have everything done in July or August thats plenty of time.

I would finish everything else asap, i.e the AADSAS application, because if this year was any indication of how things will go in the upcoming cycle then applying early is KEY. So fill that AADSAS as soon as it becomes available. As you'll find out, there will be tons of people who will turn in their completed application in the first few weeks. Unless you've got incredible stats, applying later is really going to hurt you. Also, once you've forwarded your DAT scores and your application, call and make sure the schools have your info. Don't be afraid to check on that with them. I was fortunate, that all schools, save two had any problems receiving some things from AADSAS and they won't tell you until it's kind of late, so it's better to be proactive. I know this was an issue that some others faced w/more than one school.
