Need Info Re: UMDNJ Curriculum

Hi!
Any UMDNJ students who can tell me what the hours are like at school for each year? I have two children and I am thinking about how I can make my dental school committments jive with their lives i.e. extra-curricular activities while I am in dental school.
Also I would be VERY interested in talking to people who have kids or are raising kids while in dental school (especially at UMDNJ - but really anywhere). How do you make it work? Is it really realistic? Do you feel that you sacrifice too much time away from your children or that you are missing out on being fully present during their precious childhood years?
I am concerned about how my kids will be affected by my decision to go to dental school. My kids will be 5 and 7 when I go. Any advice/experiences/thoughts will be greatly appreciated!

If you go to UMDNJ, you should count on being in school at least 8-5 everyday, although the first term of first year is a little more lax, in that you might get out at 3 on some days. On some days, we're in lab until 10 to try to finish projects ... I've heard of people staying overnights in lab as well. Weekends are usually filled with studying and catching up with projects. There are fathers and mothers in our class, but I can't imagine them being primary caregivers to their kids, at least while in dental school.
