Need Major Advice

Hello,

I'm currently finishing up my second year of college and I feel like I get worse every semester...I just got my score for my second Bio II exam on plant anatomy and I ended up getting a 50%. I have never seen such a low score in my entire life!!! 🙁
I was fooled by other peers and the professor; he posted a 300 question practice exam and told the class if you can do these problems you can do the test. Other students who taken other courses with him stated the exam is word for word from the practice problems. So I memorized the practice exam essentially. However the exam was totally different and I choked up in all the stress. I know if I studied the material instead of the practice exam I would have been fine...
At the moment, I require a B (80%) on the last test to attain a low C for a final grade (I currently have a 67%) I'm not sure if I should drop the course and retake it or study for the last test and get a C. There may be a curve on the last test and there is a very small chance the cut off scales for the grades might be lowered.
I'm not sure if I should try to talk to the professor about letting me take a make up exam (I'm sure the answer is a no)

I really don't know what to do anymore. I never had to study for a C in a class....Currently my BCPM is 3.52 and my cum is a 3.38 and I know it's going down this semester...Enter text here.

Are you the only one who fell into the professor's trap? If the entire class performed poorly, the teacher might respond to the "let us take another test to redeem ourselves" request. Talk to others in the class and arrange to meet with the professor as a group and appeal to him. It can't hurt to try. Alternatively, he might allow an extra credit paper to add to your overall points. Making it clear how important this is to you might help.

If you aren't in the habit of withdrawing from classes, having a few Ws on your transcript won't kill your application.

You've learned an important lesson here. Prepare for every test from class notes and the text. Study as if it could be a true/false, multiple choice, or an essay exam.

Thank you for the advice, I think I will try the group idea. No I haven't withdrawn from any courses so this would be my first one if I do it. I always thought withdrawing was just as bad as failing the class.

A W is not as bad, as it is not included in your GPA calculation by AMCAS. Good Luck and report back.

Swivel do you got UF? And did you have Dr. Dubaie? I had him too, he definitely tricked us. All my friends who had him said 80% of the questions on his exam are from the practice test, but there wasn't even one practice question on the exam. I still did extrememly well though.

They curved the exams by quite a bit, to the point where the class average was a 80 though. I'm not sure if you're talking about your uncurved grade or the curved grade.

Also, if you really do go to UF, I heard our next professor, Dr. Schuur, is pretty fair on his exam. If you study well and dothe extra credit, you might get higher than the 80% you're looking for. 9 points from Dr. Guillette and another potential 9 points from Dr. Schuur should fix that 50% pretty fast.

Yes Sling I do go to UF. That's good to know about professor Schuur...sadly my grade was after the curve (You don't know how badly I want to "stab" myself!! 😡).

I do like the way Schuur lectures and I did okay on Dr. Guillette's exam (Got a B). I think after talking to a few more people I will probably stick at it, I honestly don't want to redo Bio over because of one test. But it's good to know that withdrawing from the course won't change my BCPM gpa.
