Hi I live in the chicago area. I need ideas for postbacs. I graduated from UIC in 2010 and have been working for a year. I want to apply to medical school but i haven't been to school for a while and my gpa was a 3.2. I also need to collect LORs to apply. So my question is what should i do. Should i just go to a community college and retake some prereqs. Or should i do a grad program. I looked in to a master of biology program at IIT. I need some ideas. Thanks

Have you taken the prereqs? If so, any C's in prereqs?

Have you taken the MCAT yet?

My mcat was a 25 so i need to get that up. I got a C in calc 1 and 2 so i dont know if that matters. Most schools dont even require that has a prereq.

A 25 on the MCAT says you didn't master the content in the prereqs. I recommend 1-2 years of undergrad science to beef up your basics. A 2nd bachelors in a life science such as microbio or biochem or neuro would do the trick. The higher your GPA in that coursework, and the higher your MCAT, the better your chances of a successful med school app.

If you haven't started volunteering in a clinical setting, start that right away.

Best of luck to you.

Not sure I agree.

IMO, you need to dispassionately look at your MCAT prep. Was it appropriate? did you do enough work? did you do enough practice tests? did you take a prep course? If any of those is 'no' - you can fix those and retake the MCAT.

Provided you fix the MCAT, you could look at SMPs to try and solidify your chance for an MD acceptance.

Either way, CC is not going to help your application

If i did do a DIY post bac, what kind of classes would i need to take. Do i take pre reqs again or upper level courses. Thanks
