Option 1: Psych-OB-Family-Peds-Internal Med & Neuro- Surgery
Option 2: Internal Med & Neuro-Family-Peds-OB-Psych-Surgery

3rd and 4th years, could you please give me some reasons why i might choose one over the other. I am interested in family med (so I want to impress them a lot and rock that shelf).

Thank you!!

I would choose option 2. Having IM and Neuro before FM will help a lot. The shelf isn't too difficult. With the IM background you should be able to do very well if you put the time in.

Is there a lot of OB and Peds on the family med shelf? Or, is there a benefit on the OB and Peds Shelf if I've already had family?

Agreed. Pick option 2. In general, put whatever you think you may want to do in the middle of 3rd year. Not too early to be too green, not too late so you'll be tired, plus you have enough time to schedule electives or perhaps choose another field in case you realize you actually don't like FM (it happens).

I would take option two and get IM and Neuro over and done with since I thought those were the MOST HATEFUL rotations ever. Then you have the rest of the year doing nice other things.

Decent amount of peds but nothing too difficult. I agree that FM doesn't help with anything - it's just too broad

Option 2.

In my view internal med will help for most everything, certainly with the bread and butter diseases you'll see on the shelf. I also agree that peds was more important on the shelf than OB. My first two rotations were IM and I feel that helped for future rotations and exams, even the surgery shelf.

Agree! IM helps with everything (family, OB, peds, and even surgery). Also, it's one of the most difficult rotations. Start off working hard and hammering UWorld, and your 3rd year will be much better!
