So I'm a little worried about my EM application and would appreciate some feedback. I just got my grade for my away rotation at a really good program, and it was only a P (= C) out of H/HP/P/F. Got positive comments, fortunately, but I'm not sure how the grade will affect my application and prospects. Here's my background:

At an east coast school with strong EM program
1st & 2nd year: overwhelming majority honors
3rd year: mostly honors
Step 1: 240+
Some EM & peds research, lots of community service
Senior AOA
Applying to 39 programs around the country.

How much will this not-so-stellar away grade affect my application and negate the previous three years' worth of a**-busting? I'm currently busting my a** doing my home rotation and hoping to get a better grade.

You have a great app. It won't affect you, don't worry about it.

Thanks.

My dean suggested that I get two letters (SLOR & LOR) from my home rotation and hold the away SLOR until after program deadlines. (Apparently you can submit after that...?) Does this sound like a good idea, or will I be shooting myself in the foot yet again?

I personally have no idea, but I would imagine that it would appear awkward, especially when they make their rank lists.

I would love to hear if someone actually has experience here.

If it's going to be a "bad" letter, it's probably better if it's not there.
Some places will probably wonder what the hell was going on during that rotation and why there is no SLOR.

The rest of your app is great, so just try to kill it on your other rotation.

I got positive eval comments from the attending I worked with most, so I imagine my SLOR will be generally positive.
