Ok so I'm transferring in to a four-year (CSU Pomona) as a junior. I have already taken 132 quarter units at a community college (only 105 transfer over). My problem is that I need to take the series (3 quarters each) of organic chemistry and biochemistry in order to get a bachelors and as a prereq for pharm school, however, I was not able to get organic chemistry this coming Fall semester. CSU Pomona also does not offer these classes in the summer.

So... now I'm frusterated trying to figure out what to do. I don't want to stay more than four years when I already have taken quite a bit of school. I wanted to apply to pharmacy school for Fall of 2010 (which would be after finishing o-chem) and Fall of 2011 (after finishing biochem).

Any advice???

Can you flesh the time conflict out a bit for me?

I went to a quarter system UC, and we had Fall AND Winter and then Spring, so it would be entirely possible, assuming that the series for Orgo begins in Fall (Then 2 in WQ and 3 in SPQ) to do that before matriculating at pharmacy school in 2010.

I have no idea about how it works at Pomona, but I have to assume it'll be the same everywhere on quarters. Fall session as one unit usually happens for semesters, not quarters, because 1/4s are so short they're split into two sessions.

Have you considered that? I don't want to patronize you, not trying to.

Is your Biochemistry plan for Fall 2011 only if you absolutely don't get any acceptances to school in 2010, then?

Hope I didn't get more confused.

You got it, however, I was not ABLE to get o-chem for this upcoming fall and Pomona does not offer o-chem in the summer.

I planned for this...
Fall 2009: O-chem 1
Winter 2010: O-chem 2
Spring 2010: O-chem 3
Fall 2010: Biochem 1
Winter 2011: Biochem 2
Spring 2011: Biochem 3

After spring.. graduate w/ bachelors.

However, since I could not get o-chem 1 this Fall, I feel like I'm screwed and have to delay my plans by a whole year. And also, if I take it a CC, I don't think it will transfer to Pomona. Hopefully this clears up the confusion, thanks for the reply though 🙂

How does this sound?
Fall 2009:
Winter 2010: O-chem 1
Spring 2010: O-chem 2
Fall 2010: Biochem 1 and O-chem 3
Winter 2011: Biochem 2
Spring 2011: Biochem 3

Usually the pre req for biochem 1 is only Ochem 1 or 2, make sure you check with your chem department. And if somehow your school needs you to complete all 3 quarters of ochem before biochem 1, exceptions can always be made if u explain your situation to your counselor and the chem department. Most likely they will let u take both class at the same time if it means u can graduate on time.

Oh thats great!😀 At my school, the prereq for biochem 1 is actually the whole series of ochem but I will definitely try at and talk to my school counselors. And I've got the grades to show I could do it too, so I think it will work. Thanks for making me feel a whole of a lot better!!

Is it possible to O-chem 3 during the summer session before you start the fall that you're supposed to be taking Bio chem?
