hello!

I am applying to pharmacy school soon, however I am feeling more nervous as my application date is getting close. I have not taken my pcat yet and will take it in July before I apply for entrance into fall of 2014.

I need some advice on whether or not I am competitive enough for pharmacy school. If you guys can give me some tips on what I need to work on and what I can do to improve my chances of getting into pharmacy school that would be awesome!

GPA:3.58 (probably will go down a little after this semester)
I am currently a pharmacy technician and I have had leadership positions, been active member of pharmacy association and other health organizations as well as volunteer experience.
I also have asked my professors, pharmacists and volunteer coordinator for letter of recommendations.

Is there anything you guys would recommend me working on besides pcat?

Thank you!!

Work on your personal statement if you haven't started yet. Then check to see if wherever you are applying has supplemental essays that you are required and do those as well. Also I would check the SDN interview section for those schools and collect a list of possible interview questions and then start doing some mock interviews. That is unless you already think you are a rock star interviewer, then I guess I wouldn't worry.

Thank you for your response. I definitely will look into interviews and get more practice on those.
I'm worried about my gpa. Is it low for pharmacy school?

No that should be fine for any school really. Some schools look at GPA more heavily than others so it really depends on where you are planning to apply.

1. Kill the PCAT. Study! (Get Dr. Collins second-hand through the classifieds on here or Craigslist)
2. Write, edit, and refine your Personal Statement
3. Do mock interviews if possible and do well on them
4. Follow through on your classes this semester

And you'll be good to go!

Yeah, your info isn't bad at all. It would be nice if you could keep the GPA above a 3.5, although not a huge game-changer if you don't. Do well on the PCAT and you should be in pretty good shape.

I am planning to mainly apply to Texas schools and most of them require 3.5 and higher (like UT Austin) so I have been a little worried. Are you fond of any Texas schools and their requirements?
My second choice of school was University of Houston, I have done some research and they seem to be pretty tough to get in too.

I'm not in Texas, nor did I apply to any Texas schools. But, I've heard positive things about Texas Tech, both from people here in these forums and from people who have actually applied, interviewed, or graduated from there. I have worked with pharmacists from UT and UH who had no complaints about their programs also.
