Hi guys,

So I'm prepping myself for the next application cycle (I'm paranoid like that). I need some quick advice:

1. Do I need a new Premed Committee Rec letter?

2. Since applying last summer, my cGPA has dropped from a 3.58 to a 3.49. I'm going to do my best to bring it up to a 3.52ish... but my scienceGPA has gone up a bit since last summer. If my sGPA has gone up but my cGPA has gone down, how does this look to them? Is it as bad as I think it is?

3. I used to be a philosophy minor but had to drop it last semester in order to finish my major (class conflict). Do ya'll think medical schools cared about the minor at all? (the classes of course are still shown as taken).

4. I didn't apply AMCAS last semester (only AACOMAS and TMDSAS). When I do apply AMCAS this next cycle, is there anything I would need to tell them about why I didn't apply to AMCAS the first time?

Thanks!

1. I think this has already been answered but no you don't need to 🙂

2. It's not bad as you think it is. Best thing though is not to worry and raise your cgpa as you're determined to do so!

3. If you're going to reapply then I don't think the schools will be concerned with you dropping a minor. If they ever ask you during an interview, you have good reasons for why.

4. Theres no section on the AMCAS app where you need to explain why you didn't apply AMCAS first time around. But if you're asked during the interview state that you have decided to apply through AMCAS bc you're now a more competitive applicant this time around, your advisors have recommended you to apply through AMCAS, you're now financially stable and able to afford paying application fees through AMCAS, etc.

1) It depends on your school. My school told me that I had to notify them again about getting another cover letter. This is because they included my TMDSAS, AACOMAS, and AMCAS IDs to the cover letter, and that had to be updated this current cycle since the IDs changed.

2) I don't think it matters too much. Just make sure you do well this next semester. Even if you had a dip in your grades, the admissions committee just wants to see that you're able to rebound afterward! 🙂

3) Would they even know you were minoring in it without asking? Does it say it on any paperwork? I would think it would just look like you took several philosophy classes that you were interested in. I took quite a few French classes, but it was out of pure interest. It looks like I could have been going for a minor, but I wasn't (mainly because my major didn't allow minors). I was never asked about it. If you are asked, just tell them the truth. It'll be fine.

4) See above reply 🙂 It's a good one!

Awesome thanks for the replies guys! This helped a lot. 👍
