OK all.... I have posted a few times before asking for advice and/or opinions and would like to further the conversation. My background and current situation is as follows:

29 year old BS in Biology, 1999, with 1 year genomics research experience, 1999 - 2000, and 6 months of clinical research. Currently working as a technology consultat, 2 years running, for Accenture. Graduated with a 3.11 overall GPA and transferred to PLU in Washington state from the College of Alameda with a 3.68 GPA: The lower GPA is due to filing for bankruptcy my first year at PLU, financial trouble and working lots of hours the remainder of the time, and my brother's death. I would say that my science and math GPA is about a 3.1 or 3.2 but I am in the process of taking biochem, microbiology, and a couple of business classes before applying for the fall of 2004. (I fully intend to receive A's) Oh yeah, I also have a summer research program at Cal State Hayward under my belt in 1995.

Now, considering that I attended junior college from 1995 to 1996 and received my BS some 4 years ago, how will this look to admissions counselors? Secondly, with a GPA this low, how will CA schools receive me: I was a CA resident but currently reside in Washington state? I will be applying to MCPHS - Worcester, 3 year program, in Boston, to Washington state university in Eastern Washington, University of Pittsburgh, and possibly to UOP. These are all schools that do not require the PCAT: no time to take the test due to work and other obligations.

Anyway, with pharm school getting so competitive, where do I fit in to the competitive equation? I appreciate any advice and thank you all in advance.

If you never applied for Washington State residency, there's a good chance you can still claim CA residency. I attended U-Dub for 5 yrs and never got WA residency, bc I never applied for it. You should find that out soon. If you do qualify for CA residency I would encourage you to apply to all the CA schools not just UOP (Western, SC, UCSF, UCSD, Loma Linda).

You have an excellent background. It sounds like your cum gpa isn't terrible so you have a great chance. The standard reply is get more pharmacy experience, get ready to write some good essays, and be making a list of good letter writers (one from work would be great, but make sure they write a good one, see Keiki's thread for more.)

Oh yeah, and why not apply to OSU as well? A lot of my buddies who didn't make into U-Dub's program landed up there. Your last 2 yrs are done at Oregon Health Sciences U. which is a phenomenal instiution
