Hey guys.

I graduated Binghamton University (SUNY) with economics and philosophy this May. I am VERY interested in the field of medicine. Which brought me here because I am looking at a few different programs in the Northeast (Philadelphia, New York, Boston). Looking at Post bacs with career change as I have not taken any science courses except one or two to fulfill my lab credit... which I did not do so well because I took them my freshman year :\ lol. back then, when i was immature, i was very irresponsible and partied a lot... which I regret very much now lol

I have recently heard aside from these "programs" you can also go about this via "do it yourself" ways? I somehow think it is more beneficial to with the programs...

Also, places like Drexel, the program is by the School of Medicine rather than the undergraduate programs like Columbia/NYU. is one better than the other? Is Drexel (PMED) good for this program?

I don't know, it was a mind boggling process because all different programs have different deadlines, different requirements... etc. But im on it right now... Help would be much appreciated!

Thanks. Greatly appreciate it!

Do you have a question besides the one about Drexel, or were you just venting about the different deadlines and requirements?

To answer your question, Drexel is a decent enough program. A few former Drexel postbacs are at my med school. It doesn't matter in the least if a program is attached to a med school or not; as long as you get the prereqs done and get some good advising/LORs, you'll have all you can ask for from a program. It'll be up to you to do the rest.

lol yeh! haha you a bing graduate?

anyways,... do Drexel PMED have linkage programs?

Well I'm down to 3 geographic locations: NY, PA, Boston. Boston for HCP (Harvard Extension), NY for Columbia, NYU, CUNY hunter; and PA for Drexel and UPenn...

I just don't know how I would go about picking the "RIGHT" program for me?!
What are the important things to look for? Are linkage programs make the program that much better? because im aware harvard HCP doesn't have an linkage program but Columbia, CUNY does... and idk about Drexel (at least I can't find it on their website)...

Thanks!!!

Any program that gets you into medical school is the right program for you. It's only one year (two at the most), so all other considerations should be secondary to the program's med school acceptance rate. Apply to as many programs as you can, especially if your stats are less than impressive, then go to whichever one has the best luck with med school matriculation.

And yes, I believe Drexel's program does offer a linkage agreement so long as you maintain a certain GPA and achieve a minimum MCAT score. Someone more intimately familiar with the program should correct me if I'm mistaken.

Since quality and linkage agreements seem to matter to you, is there a reason you aren't considering Bryn Mawr?

I would have loved the opportunity to apply there. But when I started the application process to these programs, that was midway through the last semester, the program was closed for the upcoming year. I DO NOT want to wait a whole academic year prior to starting post bac...

So you think as many as possible huh? im applying to 5 programs... 6 actually... that tooo little?

I'm afraid I couldn't say. I know nothing about your application; you didn't post any details regarding stats. If you're a strong candidate that should be plenty. So you're applying to begin in August? These other programs are still accepting applications for the class that starts in 2 months?

Well as far as stats go, I meet the bar for these programs... but on the lower end. GPA: 3.0 with SAT: 1100 and I'm applying late in the game. SO i was wondering if i should just wait till the next round of applications but I don't know if i wanna take the time off. I have applied already to a few.

Yes I am applying for the upcoming Fall semester (August). Which is weird because ALL the different schools have different deadlines... which makes sense but they are really far apart from one another. i.e. Drexel, deadline for FALL semester is august 15th!!!

Only program I'm applying for the Spring is CUNY Hunter. Anyways... any input? I am just hoping to get into at least 2 programs to choose from.

Thanks
