I am applying for the 2006 cycle and have a little dilemna...I am currently taking a pretty heavy load and foolishy simultaneously am enrolled with kaplan for the DAT prep...so I was thinking of dropping kaplan (if they will let me, i only took the first class so far) and taking it in the summer...the course goes from 6/25-8/10...and i plan to take the DAT's right after the course...I already have the material so i can start preparing a little early...so basically im asking if around 8/10 is too late to take the DAT ?? I am planning to send in my application earlier, but I dont know if that will help...my gpa is not that high..around 3.15..will sending in my application early do anything? and can they reject me solely based on gpa alone?? should i send in my application earlier even though there is no DAT score??...i can probably get eveything in the app. together (except DAt of course) by mid june..thanks!

You should send in your application as early as possible. Understand that interviews will start around late August so if you apply early you will be competing with much less students than if you were to apply late. The more time that goes on, the more students apply and the more competition you have.

The schools will most likely not reject you that early. I have not heard of anyone getting rejection letters in August or even September unless the school specifies a certain GPA, which most schools do not. The schools can't really reject you that early because they don't know what the application cycle will be like for that year.

However, you should take your DAT no later than the end of August. Send in your scores ASAP. You can even call some schools and ask to fax over your scores (hopefully, if you do well). However, they will probably send you a letter or a little postcard stating that you file is currently incomplete because of your DATS. Those letters begin to come in August so if you take the DAT then you can have your file complete by September which would be fine.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Biggest thing for someone in your shoes (or any shoes, for that matter)...Apply Early!!

Thats the best advice you will get.

wait..so if i apply early and send my DAT scores in later, will i my application be looked at with the people that submitted their apps. at the same time as me? or will it be looked at with the people who applied at the same time they get my DAT scores? thanks!

I was kind of in your shoes last summer. I completed my sophomore year and I wanted to take the DAT a little early. After starting the class, I found myself way too busy with research. I talked to Kaplan and decided to complete the class with the intention of taking it over again. I just waived their guarantee so I could take it a second time. Honestly, it would not hurt to sit in on the class. You will still learn some things in the class. While you may not be studying right now, you can get an invaluable jump start on certain sections, like the PAT.

Also, I do not think that it is too late. Make sure you get your application completed in June and take the DAT no later than August. If you follow that plan, you should still be a very competitive applicant if you do your part. Hope this helps!!

They will first look at your app without the DAT and then reconsider you at the time that you submit your DAT. So, they will look at your app twice.
