Hi everyone,

So I am planning to retake the MCAT in late July. However, I am planning to submit my primary application to only one school so that it gets verified and after receiving my second MCAT score in late August, I will select the rest of the schools that I wish to apply for.

1. Is it really late to submit my primary apps to schools in late August/early September?

2. For the second MCAT score, on the primary app I am listing that I plan to take the one in late July. Once I get my second score, will my primary application be updated with the new score so that I can send it to the rest of the schools?

Thanks!

1. According to SDN, yes. However, my applications were not complete at most schools until late September (and some in October/November) due to circumstances beyond my control, and I was pretty successful this past cycle. I think how much applying late-ish will affect you really depends on the overall strength of your application. If you have very borderline to sub-par stats and EC's, then this would put you at a disadvantage. I would recommend working on secondary essays as much as possible while waiting for your new MCAT score so that you can have a fast secondary turnaround.

2. When your new score comes in, your AMCAS will be automatically updated with the new score.

1) IMO, "Really late" is Early October to mid-November. I'd consider late August to be toward the end of the average range. Important to note, though, is that there's no official definition.

2) The new score will automatically be sent out to all AMCAS schools you've applied to. If you add new schools at that time, they will get the entire application, and both scores, within a business day. If you are applying to AACOMAS schools, I believe you have to specifially request that the new score be sent out. I'm not sure how it works wwith TMDSAS schools or other non-AMCAS MD schools.
