So, I got my MCAT scores back today...
A little more about myself:

cumulative: 3.49
science: 3.23

Hospital volunteering, Homeless Shelter, Hospice, shadowed DO and MD, received DO letter of recommendation...

First mcat: 23M (7V, 7PS, 9BS) 4/10/2010
Second mcat: 30M (10V, 10PS, 10BS) 4/9/2011

I don't know what to do. I was going to retake the MCAT in June and that "M" is bothering me. Should I retake?

I am applying to
A.T. Still University, School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona, AZ
Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University, AZ
Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University, Admissions Office, IL
Western University of Health Sciences/College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific - Lebanon, OR
Western University of Health Sciences/College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific - Pomona, CA
Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine, WA

Do you think I have a good chance even with the low gpa and mcat score?

Wow, short and to the point. I like that 🙂 Thanks.

haha have to agree, as long as there aren't any F's and a lot of C's with that GPA you should be great..

Why only those schools? Location? If not I would apply to a few more if money isn't an issue.. 30M is a pretty solid score, yeah the M isn't ideal but not a deal breaker.

I got in with a 23R my friend!!

Nobody cares about writing unless it is a J...and if you get that you are ******ed.

Do not retake, apply this year, and enjoy an acceptance (assuming you are not an idiot on your interviews)

Woah~ you got in with a 23R? Well, the other parts of your application must have been solid. I'm a WA resident and so I'm trying to find schools that are OOS friendly.

I sure hope I'm not an idiot during my interviews, assuming I get interview invites 🙂

You'll do great! I have a lower gpa and lower mcat than you. So if you have no chance... what chance do I have?? Keep it up! Hope we get into the schools that we want!

By the grace of God did I get in! My application was pretty solid except for my mcat.

I don't know how i got into KCUMB, but I did, you should look into it as well. I would also look into WVSOM, another great school that is very OOS friendly. I interviewed there also and got accepted but it was further away than KCUMB so i declined.

Absolutely do NOT re-take! Noone cares about the essay part. You'd easily get an invite at our school, and a probably acceptance.

Thanks guys. I guess I should cancel the June MCAT. I will definitely look into KCUMB and WVSOM.

Do not retake! no one cares about the writing section.

It depends on your extracurricular activities and letter as well but based on your stats I think you have a good chance. I had very similar stats, actually an L on MCAT and got into multiple schools with interviews at many of the above listed. I applied to 14 schools to make sure I got in and ended up getting interviews at 8.

Also so you know last year western did their admissions together so although you did two secondaries, you only had a chance to get into one or the other. basically if you got into the CA one they removed your application from OR one so it basically counts as one school.

If you are worried you could add a few back up schools because the ones you are going for all have higher GPAs and MCATs just as a safety measure to make sure you get in.

I would look into the Ohio COM agreement they want you to sign saying you'll practice in OH for like 5 years when you graduate. I didn't find out about it till after I got my secondary, maybe not an issue for me but just so you know..

Also I would maybe look into WVSOM. My brother graduated there two years ago and I interviewed there as well (accepted there too but KCUMB is closer to TX). I think it's a pretty good, underrated school.
