Hello everyone,
I am in a big dilemma and need your advice...
I'm planning to take my NBDE 1 in sept 2nd week. (and expect to get my scores by october 1st week or so) and i wish to apply to BU. I did check the application deadline for BU(which says applications are open till jan 08) The website also said that they prefer if students apply early in the cycle.... my doubt is am i applying late to BU... specially keeping in mind that they take time to process applications... and the later you apply , a higher and better score you need ( to atleast get an interview call as most of the interview dates will also be given out)
Also because BU excepts candidates with a score of over 91 or 92 is adding to my worries...
I am really concerned and would appreciate your help and advice..

thankyou,
Bigtooth

hey bigtooth..
i too understand ur dilemma coz i am floating in teh same sea...i took my test on april'07 and since i didnt get good scores i intend retake teh test....was at first planning on late august, but now i hear ada may be reevaluating the new format in sept/oct...so am worried...coz i dont know if i sud take the test in late august n test my luck or sud i wait until ada's new format evaluation? coz either way i am screwed...if i do wait n take it later then i will be too late for most application cycles to upenn, bu or nyu...

The fact that ADA is planning to revise the score curve or stuff is bothering me too.... i did a lot of planning and figured that if i try to take the exam earlier then i wouldnt be prepared enough and if i try to experiment later then i'll be too late to join the application cycle.... Also, considering the fact that the results with the new pattern of the exam are not as promising and the schools are looking for high percentiles adds to more pressure.... is just too much stress to handle.

Hey guys ...
just dont read the post and ignore it...
i thought we should help each other . i'm really looking forward for some help and advice... come on people!!

You both should be made aware that the ADA has said the "recalibration" scheduled for this fall is NOT likely to change how the NDBE I is scored and is only for internal statistical purposes.

Furthermore, since people are purported to score 5 or however many points lower on this new scale, it would be logical to assume that the expectations of dental schools and post graduate residency programs would be proportionately lower (The question being HOW MUCH lower). The ADA has said it would inform dental schools that it is not possible to compare scores from exams taken before the change and after. Hence negating the supposed advantage applicants who took the test last year would have on you and others in your situation.

Your course of action is, of course, your own to decide...Good Luck be to you

Even i am in the same dilemma ....even i got low score in april 07 and i really donot want to miss this years deadline ...GOD ..this is such a headache...but I strongly think even now if we struggle hard and read promptly its possible to score above 90.So lets put our hardwork and get ready to take test anytime between aug end to sept.so we should not waste our time thinking about dates but get ready to face the battle...what do u all think??

i agree....i know it has been awfully bad year for most of us with this new pattern and all...and now this whole ada revising thingie and all is also getting on the nerves....do we take the test n wait for sth wonderful to come thru or sud we wait until the revising....i did some thinking n i think even after the revising the whole format its not goin to be whole lot difference to the format or the scoring....so i m thinking of preparing for the test as it is n making another attempt at the least by sept....coz if i wait a lil more longer then i run out of time....i just have to take the chance...
