obviously top-heavy.. if there's a even a small likelihood that i won't get into any of these schools, i will add more. but for costs/energy, would much rather not.

my stats: ivy league 3.8/36, 2 years of research, 2 years of clinical volunteering and shadowing, club leadership, a few summer fellowships won.

do you think i should add a few more? pitt/emory/albert einstein?

So it looks like you have your bases covered with really good numbers, research experience, and clinical experience. The next question is what makes you special? That is the question that these top schools ask. They might interview you for having the bases covered. They will accept you for being able to answer that question. Are you especially accomplished in your research? Was your clinical experience different from what most other premeds have? Or is it something else that gives your application a unique flavor?

I'd suggest looking into Pitt. You may really like it -- I know I did.

No, I'm not interested in my state schools

Why not? Most of them are pretty good, and you might have a chance at going free.

There is definitely a chance you won't get into any of those schools. Your only real safety is BU. I would add a couple or change a couple. Your state schools at a minimum.

there's only one state school for my state, and it's in the middle of nowhere. not even a good school.🙁

really you think so? i thought BU, NYU, USC were all moderate chance schools (given there's no real safety in this). do you have any recommendations on more lower-tier schools? i'm looking for schools in urban settings only

Would you rather not be a doc (or sacrifice a year of attending income while you reapply) than attend your state school? If not - it's a good safety. Other state schools good for safeties kind of depends on your region. Also take a look at some of the Chicago schools (eg Rosalind Franklin), Philly has several schools...

Buy an MSAR and look for schools where >20% of the class is OOS. then look at the MCAT/GPA to determine their fit as a safety.

I know a TON of kids who thought they were hot stuff, so they only applied to the top schools. Their egos prevented them from applying to safety schools and now they've only seen wait lists. Don't be stubborn enough to make the same mistake.

I applied to 16 schools with a 4.0 gpa and 35 mcat... honestly, I spent my whole summer writing essays. It really, really sucked. I understand that applying to more schools gives you a higher chance of getting into that prestigious school, but if I were to do it again... I would only apply to 10 or 12 (max), and have 2 or 3 of them be safeties.
