So, I am typing from my phone, this is the only internet access I have, so I apologize
For any typos....
Here is my dilemma:
I just got hired as a pharmacist, but for now as an graduate intern. I get 80hours of training only. I have neer worked at that chain before.
I feel like I am not getting a chance to learn the computer system.
The store is very busy and I get shoved off to sell rxs at drive through or count by fives.
The pharmacist who is training me seems to be not happy if I try to do other tasks.
In fact, she told me once that I was not ready to do one simple thing
It seems that she is happy when I am filling rxs, counting by 5s.
I feel like in the end of 2 weeks she can say to the district manager that she did her best
Training me but I am just stupid and can,t get the computer system...
 
The district manager can fire me...
So, what are my options? I don't wanna run to the district manager now and say that she is
Not training me well. I don't want to even hint that because I don't want to be one of those people who complain and run the the boss...
But at the same time, my job could be on the line if I don't learn the stupid system!
Its hard to learn also, when the atmosphere is not relaxed...she is kind of controlling. Do this, don,t do this. Push this button because its a short cut. When I tried to tell her that I want to learn the direct way at first and then shortcuts, bc shortcuts are confusing, she still expects me to do things her way.
I feel like she can set me up and get me fired if I don't learn the computer system....I have only about 40 hours left of training...

Have you tried to take the initiative ? What's the computer system - do they have training CDs for you or online modules you can take to navigate through and learn ?

When I worked as an intern at my job, we used Cerner so they gave me training CDs to go through.

First of relax- you aren't stupid, you have gotten through pharm school for crying out loud, how hard can getting computer system be ? Second of all, don't feel bad about counting/filling - seems like a lot of places just want to shove you and use you as a slave labor rather than directing clinical type of tasks to you if you are fresh outta school.
 
Pleae help! I don't want to lose the job...I love the chain and I love the job. But I feel like she stands between me and my performance bc she is not letting me to learn the systm...
 
I did try to take the initiative, she gets moody about it. Once she told me that I was not ready. To perform a task.
So she just shoves me to fill...
 
Maybe she is assertive and pushy with you because you come across lacking confidence ?

How do you carry yourself around her ?

Now I feel like I am affraid of her and just do what she tells me to do.
It probably does not matter , how I feel or what she thinks...I only have 40 more hours to learn the system. I don't want to get fired and can't let her to stand between me and my job, which I like and want to keep keep. I need to figure out how to just learn what I need to learn and not let her stand between me and the job
 
What chain is this? At WAG there is a list of things that the pharmacy manager is supposed to go over with a new RPh during the 80-hr training. This sounds ridiculous. You should explain this situation to your district supervisor and ask to transfer to another store.

You probably won't get fired if you do not master your company's system by the end of training. At big chains, it usually takes several steps before an employee is terminated.

When I was a grad intern, I was placed at a very busy store so my preceptors were too busy to really train me and I felt bad asking questions all day when they were busy. They had a full staff, so every station was already taken by a tech. I mainly dispensed, answered phones and got drive thru and pick up. I didn't feel I was able to learn as much as I'd like to, so I asked my DM if I can transfer to a lower volume store that way I can have the opportunity to work every station myself as well as ask the RPh as many questions as I can without feeling like I'm a burden to the RPh. My DM sent me to the slowest store in the area, and I'm glad I asked because I learned the system and was able to ask a lot of questions like what do I do if this happens, etc.

Don't tell your DM your RPh is bossy and rude and won't let you do anything, just explain it's too busy for you to learn the system the way you'd like and that you would like to be very comfortable with the system before you go solo. Your DM won't see it as "ratting", it will probably show initiative to learn as much as you can before going solo. You just have to word it to where you aren't offending anyone. Good luck!
 
I strongly support asking to be transferred to a slower store. I was never in your position (I worked for the same chain before graduation as after, so my "training" was grand total of 20 minutes during which a pharmacist showed me pharmacist-specific portions of the system), but I have worked with a grad intern once as a pharmacist. I was not the one responsible for her training, I as a floater working at the store where she was. Grad interns are sometimes (I don't know whether it is common or not, it was the case for me) scheduled not in addition to regular techs, but rather in place of regular techs. Therefore, as a pharmacist, even though I really felt for that girl and tried to answer her questions when we would slow down a bit, but I really couldn't let her just play with the system or stand and observe me when it was just me and her and a 180-script day... Unfortunately, in understaffed circumstances it comes to the choice of "pharmacist goes insane" and "grad intern gets good training". Guess which option pharmacists chose vast majority of the time?
