Hello,

I am entering my fourth year of Hon. in Biochemstry and I want to get in to Canadian pharmacy schools-prefer U of T but will be happy to just get in to any pharm school(I am Canadian); however, my CGPA currently is not so great-slightly below 3.0. On the extracurricular front, I am currently volunteering at a retail pharmacy, have done one year of research with a professor, have been a in-class room tutor for 2 years and is a member of a philanthropy club for 2 years. I am writing my PCAT in September of this year.

It seems to me that it doesn't make sense to apply for pharmacy school for the 2012 year because my current grades are not good enough. It probably makes more sense to apply for the 2013 year until I know my 4th year marks, which I will be working very hard to pull up the GPA.

I was thinking of applying for another undergraduate science degree at my local university and redo some of the prerequisites for pharmacy school I did not do well in and get exempted for the prerequisites that I did do well in (It will be cheaper and easier than applying for a Masters elsewhere I think).

Please, let me know if you think this is a good plan.

Thank you for your time 🙂

Don't waste your money and time trying to get into pharmacy, seriously.

UGH I am so sick of this crap. If this person wants to get into pharmacy, who the hell are you to discourage it? I mean, seriously, it's NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. If you don't have anything helpful to say, then don't say anything at all. >:|

I agree!!!

OP,

I wouldn't wait 2 more years to apply. I know you feel your GPA is low but I would argue that your best chance of getting in is in the next year or so. My reasoning is that U of T's applicant number has dropped significantly this past application cycle. This was largely due to U of T increasing the pre-reqs required to apply. Within a few years more people will be familiar with the pre-reqs and I think the applicant number will go back up and it will be harder to get in.

Don't listen to people who say you need a 3.8 or 3.9 to be competitive. People said the same thing to me when I applied. I know many people who have gotten in at U of T with GPAs at borderline 3.0.

Also your going into 4th year, so your 4th year grades will count for admission. You just have to pull them up. It's not impossible. In fact I improved my grades by 10% in 4th year. Also aim for a 85+ PCAT and you'll have a decent shot.
