Hey guys..I'm new to this site and have very recently decided to look into pharmacy..I will give a brief description of everything and hopefully pharm students and those in the profession can offer some insight 🙂
I am a sophomore in undergrad and I have done a lot of career searching the past 2 years. I have always known that I want to work in healthcare in some way, and I came into school as pre-dent, for I had heard that dentistry was a little more condusive to having a family and balancing everything than medicine (I'm a female who plans on being a very involved mother). I guess I should explain that a bit. I have a boyfriend that I have been with for 5 years, and we are very ready to get married..we are pretty much just waiting for me to finish undegrad. I have always wanted to get married young and start a family..and most of all have my family as my top priority..this is EXTREMELY important to me. My family needs to come first always, and I have always wanted, and can't wait, to be a mother. I found my significant other very early, but I am glad I did and we know we are perfect for each other. Anyway, sorry to get off topic, but that's my viewpoint and where my dilemma lies. So, to make a long story short, I worked in a dentist office over the summer and found that dentistry wasn't the field for me ( for many reasons). I came back to school this year and switched my major from biology to chemistry, because I am good at it and enjoy it. I have searched alllllll over for all the possible jobs/careers that can come from a chem major, and I keep coming back to pharmacy.
I guess my real concerns are: How difficult will it be to be married during pharm school?
Will I be able to balance raising a family and remain active in my kids' lives while being a pharmacist?
Would it even be possible to start a family shortly after I finish pharm school?
and also, what are the reasons why you all are choosing pharmacy, and what motivates you?
I know I am kind of jumping the gun here, but I just want to make sure I've made the best decision for me before I dedicate my next year in school applying and striving to get into pharm school, let alone the following four years!
If you guys have any input, pleast let me know!! and sorry for the EXTREMELY long post!!
