🙂 hey...im new here! i am taking the dat in three weeks from now and i have taken KAPLAN..and studied here and there throughout the semester and now i am on christmas break. So i have been studying from 9 am til 3 every day so far. i just wanted to know if kaplan and destroyer are enough? my plan is to go through kaplan fully and completely once...then take some practice dats in between and do the kaplan hw...then go through destroyer fully and completely about 2-3 times the week b4 the exam...and then taking practice exams throughout that. and then a couple practice exams the week of the exam and also go through flashcards. Is this a good plan? or should i be freaking out since i only have 3 weeks left?

buy Top score and DAT Achiever, but don't get disappointed if you get low scores on DAT Acheiver( it is harder than the actual DAT).

Make sure you just use every possible resource and know it well and you will do great!!! Good Luck!

My Dat is also in about 3 weeks... Jan 12. I have been studying the kaplan and Achiever, but my primary source is the Dat Destroyer. I'm telling you all of the stuff in the Destroyer is in every other book its just you have to look at each question and answer in the Destroyer carefully. Plus the Destroyer is 10 times better for things like OChem and Bio. The Ochem has road maps which are basically all of your Ochem rolled into 5 pages is amazing, just photo copy a page and take it with you wherever you go. Also, from what I have seen, as I have many friends who have used Destroyer, the Bio questions are on the money. They are exactly geared towards the types of questions on the Dat. Anyway, best of luck and I guess we will see how we do in a few weeks. Also, are you applying for Sept 07 or for the following yr.

...so basically you are just answering the questions in the DAT Destroyer and studying that way? because I am a little lost in how to use the destroyer in an efficient way...i keep getting flustered and changing my study methods, which i know is definately wasting time since i only have 3 weeks left! also...what do you mean by "all of your Ochem rolled into 5 pages"? haha..i got a little confused by that too!

I am applying for Fall 2008 cycle...so i still have some time...what about you? and thanks alot for the advice and good luck to you too! 🙂

I've told everyone I know, and I haven't seen anyone on here mention it, to use Sparknotes. They have these foldout chart style study aids that you can get at your university bookstore. Get General Chem1 & 2, Organic Chem 1&2, molecular biology, and medical terminology. They're around 5 bucks each, so less than 35 bucks with tax and everything.

Those Kaplan study guides are a bit overrated. I studied for my DAT in summer 05 using Kaplan's monster sized book whenever i had free time at work. I really just read it that summer and dropped it once school started again. The classes you take are more important than the study manuals you get (endocrinology and Vert Physiology helped the most). Read those sparknotes the morning of the test as a refresher and you'll do fine.

i'm taking the dat in may. tomorrow i'm finishing up reading the bio section of the kaplan book. i'm deciding whether to move ahead with chemistry or to keep hitting the bio with flashcards until i know bio solidly...
do i need to know the enzymes involved in the major cycles like krebs etc?

DAT DESTROYER STUDY GUIDE

"I have been asked many times, what is the best way to study the Destroyer? The DAT Destroyer is a study guide not a test. I have spent over a decade preparing students for the DAT and the book was written through that experience. The DAT Destroyer is geared 100% for the DAT and the questions are similar to what you will experience on test day. Our book took over 2 years to develop and is continually being updated with new information. We work hard to make it the number one study guide available. Through the years, we have found that students who followed our path of study scored above average on the DAT. Our students get accepted in schools such as Harvard, Columbia, UMDMJ, NYU, Stony Brook, Buffalo, just to name a few. Therefore, with hard work and dedication you have an opportunity to excel on the DAT too.

Students have used our book in various ways, some use flashcards, others just read through the questions and solutions. Before your begin study in any section, I recommend having your reference books available to look up anything that is unclear to you. I recommend going back to whatever Organic Book and General Chemistry book you used for the class. For biology, there are many sources for reference and many students find the internet helpful for looking up things that are not clear. The last section of the DAT is Quantitative reasoning The Quantitative Reasoning section is much like the math in the Destroyer. The problem many students encounter with this section is TIME. Not enough of it. The problems are not difficult but you must do calculations on paper without the aid of a calculator. Therefore, practice, practice, and more practice will help you with this section. We encourage you to practice our materials and anything you have that may help you with speed .Use what works best for you. What I emphasis most is the importance of knowing all the information in the book. Remember this is not a test book, so you must know much more than the question and correct answer. For example, on each question you most know the correct answer and all of the incorrect choices. Pay special attention to my detailed solutions. If you are unsure of something look it up. You may need to get a tutor if you do not have a solid foundation in the sciences. All students are different, so the way a student studies my materials will vary too.

It is preferred you have at least a month to study the material, but many students have excelled with much shorter times. No two students are alike. We look forward to your success."

Hey sorry it took so long to get back to you I just had finals and plus dat studying so not so much time to do much else. anyway, with the destroyer i go through all of the questions and the answers making sure to know every choice and why it is right or wrong, that what I was told to do by Dr. Romano when I called him for advice. anyway best of luck with you exam!
