Hey,

I was thinking about getting the frequently recommended Nelson's for residency--anyone have thoughts on the full Nelson's text versus the "mini" essentials version?

The information contained in a textbook is outdated by the time it is put into print. Still... The book looks good on my shelf. 🙂

Yeah, I'd save your money. You could use it for an Up to Date subscription if your institution doesn't have one. Chances are the department will have Nelson's somewhere available, but I don't think I've ever really just sat down and read it. Zitelli's might be useful, but even then, you can probably get your hands on a copy.

I bought Nelson's essentials intern year: it collects dust on my bookshelf. We have access to the full Nelsons through MD Consult, and I will reference it fairly frequently, but I don't sit down to read it.

I feel like the only good reason to buy a Nelsons would be if your residency does some kind of didactics program where they have you review specific chapters of the book. My best sources for learning have been neoreviews, pediatrics in review, and Uptodate.
