Can someone help me fill in the blanks. Im confused bc my physio textbook and MCAT solutions say two different things

Renal regulation (compensation) in the nephrons:

HYPERVENTILATION (resp alkalosis)-- What does the kidney do to compensate?? Does it excrete/secrete or reabsorb...or both?
-i thought it was: HCO3 (base) secretion/excretion into filtrate and H (acid) reabsorption into the plasma/blood.
I read somewhere it was H2CO3 secretion--i thought h2co3 was just an enzyme?

HYPOVENTILATION: (resp acidosis)--
-i thought it was: HCO3 (base) reabsorbtion into the blood, and H (acid)excretion into the filltrate. What does H2CO3 do?

h2co3 doesn't do anything... it's just an acid. both bicarb and h+ are secreted into the bloodstream in the kidney, taken together that's h2co3.

thats what i thought.... so what i wrote up there is correct and the kidneys can both secrete and reabsorb H and bicarb depending on the conditions?
