So I've been getting pretty neurotic about interviews lately. After seeing SDNers with 8+ IIs already, a lot of irrational thoughts are flooding my head, and I would love for someone to knock some sense into me. I have a LizzyM>80 and a solid/well-rounded application. I have two IIs so far, one from NYU and one from my state school. I guess it's been making me nervous that I haven't heard back from my other schools. I was complete at half of my schools on July 16th and the other half on July 23rd, so I have been telling myself that it's likely a lot of places haven't even read my app yet.

Should I take a Xan? Let me know. Thanks yall 🙂

In order for an interview to stress you out (or anything for that matter) always keep in mind that your consent is required for it to be stressful.

These things are only as stressful as you let them be. Just calm down, focus on the goal, be grateful for what you do have not what you do not have. You got this.

Dont worry, they will come. After a couple i'm sure you will feel much more comfortable in the interview (from what I imagine)

Bruh, just think about this: my primary was verified on Aug 5th, I just finished SOME secondaries, I am on limited time for churning them out since my wife went back to work (teacher), one of our kids is sick (1 yo), and another one (6 yo) was supposed to go back to school next week but his new school building is not ready yet and they plows down the old one so he will be home for the next two weeks. I have no interviews etc. Well I don’t have rejections yet either but you know - it’s hard to watch people who have two interviews already and are freaking out 🙂

His worry makes more sense in the context of how long he's been complete. You've got time and shouldn't be yet

@Wally1980 that sounds like a ton to handle, I admire your strength in juggling the application season on top of all that. I hope everything works out well for you! 🙂

To be fair, I'm not worrying too hard just yet. Of the schools I have applied to that have actually sent out IIs, only two have sent them out to people complete around when I was (from what I can tell on SDN at least)

It's not even Labor Day, and Admissions stafs have to sort through some 5000-10000 apps. Cut them some slack, will ya?

Patience is a virtue, the need for instant gratification is not.

Schools stratify the apps as they come in and don't send out secondaries or IIs merely in chronological order.

Secondaries are often a tax on the hopelessly naïve, if not pathologically optimistic.

Not directed at you, OP, but SDNers are advised to not to have the mindset of “I sent in my apps; where are my IIs???!!!”

@Goro thank you! I know I am being irrational, it's just hard to reign in the anxiety sometimes. I appreciate your advice.

Also, Would it make sense for me to feel like the early NYU invite could be a good sign?

I was complete Mid July and noticed most of the schools which I applied are still working on early July senders. I have 3 II with a LM of 78+ so I’ll say it’s likely they start trickling in more by the end of next week and into September

Agree with above. Most schools I applied to haven’t even began sending out interviews, and many others haven’t really progressed past July 10th

Easy to say with 12 II's 😉

Hahaha yes it been a crazy past few weeks but nothing like @u_raptor 🙂. I do think that after the first II you start to calm down a bit because you realize there probably isn't any major red flags in your app that you didn't realize. Getting a II from a school like NYU means that you are competitive for NYU class schools. Since we are only in mid August, I would expect more to come in if you got early interview invites from some top schools. All just my opinion though

@spuding102 you're killing it!!! hope you feel great about your success thus far 🙂

and yeah, the NYU invite made me feel awesome for a second, but over this past few weeks I have somehow convinced myself it was a fluke. Yes, I know that doesn't make sense haha

Thank you! Its not a fluke. I am willing to bet my bottom dollar you get more invites from similarly ranked schools or better. If we were in Feb and you just received that invite I probably would not say the same thing.

Hey 12 is pretty crazy!!! congrats.

Major Blunders is subordinate to General Failure. Over 10% of those with 3.8+/517+ get rejected. As my mother would say, dont count your chickens before hatch
I agree with not counting chickens before they hatch. Though those in that >10% probably had some deficiencies in their application (lack of ECs, poor essays, poor/limited selection of schools, mediocre letters, etc), and they likely were not necessarily the ones getting interviews at T10/20 schools. Those who do get invited essentially have been vetted and have cleared those hurdles, and the overwhelming majority of them will matriculate somewhere (reportedly >95% from my more senior colleagues). Obviously, for applicants who are invited to interview at these schools, remain humble and do prepare for the worst, but also recognize that the odds are overwhelmingly in your favor (not necessarily at the school of your choice though!).
