Hello everyone
i am an IMG applying into Neurology. My scores are so so but i managed somehow to get 8 interviews. Although not in the top tier places, i would be pretty happy if i matched into any of my top 4 places. Is there any statistic suggesting which place IMGs generally match into? I know that grades are important, but if i was arleady called for an interview than i probably passed that first step?

How many interviews are most people attending? How many programs is it good to rank, to more or less secure a place ?

thanks

I think I have a strong application. I've applied to about 43 neuro programs. Eventually got 10 invites. I was able to physically go to 7. I'm ranking them all. I would be happy at any of them, and I think I will be a pretty good neurologist by the end of my residency.

For me two points are important:
Can I get good training from the program.
Residency (like med school) is what you make of it.

One last thing: programs are not going to call you unless they think they will rank you.

sbdoc,

It would be tough to come up with meaningful statistics on how far IMGs rank down their list for neurology spots, just as it would be for American med-school grads. Everyone is different, and has different attributes. There are FMGs in my program that had their pick of any program in the country!

If a program asked you to interview, and you didn't come off looking terrible, then you have a very reasonable chance of matching there. I can't speak for all programs, but I know that my program does almost all of the "weeding out" prior to the interviews, and it's just fine-tuning from there.

Regarding your ROL, you should rank all the programs you interviewed at, unless you would rather not match than go to one of them.
