Can someone please explain the reasoning behind the answer to this problem - I honestly don't get it (in my defense I've been studying all day and am starting to space out).
Question: What is the net ionic equation for the reaction between FeS and HCl?
Answer:
A) FeS(s) + 2H+(aq) --> H2S(g) + Fe2+(aq)
For the explanation it shows 2 Cl-(aq) on the reactant and product side (but crossed out with a line through them b/c they're spectator ions).
When I was working on the problem, I had the balanced equation look like this:
FeS(s) + 2HCl --> H2S(g) + FeCl2.
😕
