So I've been researching on neuro critical care and it seems like a really interesting field. With that, my question is does anyone know anyone trained in both neurology and anesthesia in preparation for a neuro critical care career/neuro critical care/neuro anesthesia research?

If you are intersted in Neuro Critical Care, why do Neuro and Anesthesia? From what I know, docs who work in the Neuro ICU, do a residency in Neurology and then a fellowship in Neuro Critital Care. Can Anesthesia ICU docs (with no neuro background) work in the Neuro ICU ? Most of the Anesthesia ICU docs I know work in the medical ICU, and some in the surgical ICU.

Yea they can...or just stick to other icu's they run

I asked an attending about this training path a while ago. Duke might be one place to look into if you're interested. Here's one guy my attending told me about who did this: http://www.dukehealth.org/physicians/david_l_mcdonagh . I think my attending told me he did 3 years of anesthesia/neuroICU after neuro residency and splits his time between doing neuroICU and awake craniotomies. Seems like an interesting path, although it might make more sense to go the anesthesia route depending on your interests.

Oh that's super cool! I'll look more into this guy. Thanks! 😀

Well, a lot of the people who went this route did it before there was a formal accreditation in NCC. Now you need a formal NCC fellowship to sit for the boards, but you can still get there from EM or gas. The people I know are all academic, but pretty much everyone I know is academic. If you're going into PP, doing two residencies doesn't make a lot of sense in terms of opportunity cost.
