NIR can make a bit more than their standard DR counterparts depending on their practice setting (+100-200k). Lifestyle is terrible; you are usually on call for a whole week block and alternate call depending on how many people cover stroke call in your group. Jobs are pretty much restricted to regions with large groups/groups that cover stroke centers; It is much easier to find a job in DR than NIR.

NIR requires 1 year internship+4 year rads + 1 year neuro DR fellowship + 2 year NIR fellowship (total of 8 years).

If you are a medical student I think you should highly consider neurosurgery residency over the NIR pathway. NIR doesn’t provide a much better lifestyle and your skillset will be much more extensive as a neurosurgeon. Neurosurgeons perform endovascular interventions and you can specialize in NIR as a neurosurgeon.

looking at your post, if your main concern is income potential, neuro IR is not a great field. Training is too long and the end salary isn’t that high.
Salary is not my main concern I will be happy with 300k. I just enjoy neurosurg but lifestyle is horrible and wanted to know if neuro IR was the same. sadly it is so I will be searching something else sadly.

Honestly, if trend is any indication, the pathway for neuroIR will be through neurosurg. I feel neurosurg, unfortunately, is taking over neuroIR tbh.
