Hi! I'm a MS3 US student with Step 1 scores in the 230s who's picked psychiatry for now, but is also interested in child neurology/neuropsych and hasn't ruled it out yet. i wouldn't be able to take a neurology elective until september/october, and only after that could I get a strong rec letter. So one neuro rec letter may not be done until mid-sept, and another until mid-oct, very optimistically. My regular neuro attendings did not know me that well and would probably only write an okay letter.
My question is, is there enough time for me to still apply and be considered for programs by that time (mid-oct/mid-sept depending on program requirements), or is it better to just to take my neuro electives throughout the year and postpone the match for year (doing research or something else).
Thank you so much!
