Well the question which has really been teasing me since i started my steps preparation. I have real interest in opting neurology as a career but am lacking in facts about the competition Foreign Medical Grads have to face in Neuro.
If i become more personal, then with scores of 233 in step 1 and 230 in step 2, ECFMG certified with couple of Abstracts, both in Neuro Intensive Care, just submitted and waiting for approval. How much chances are there of getting the match when all the programs offering Neuro are University-based?

Go for it, you will probably be fine. Your scores are good, abstracts show interest in field. So as long as you interview well and have good recs you should be fine. As to how competitive you are for great vs. good vs. marginal programs.... who knows. It is all extremely variable depending on the rest of your application.
Good luck, go for it if it is what you want. You will most likely get in somewhere. 👍

Thanx for the encouragement

I can't help but think that we're in a similar position!! I'm a foreign medical grad-to-be too (still a med student)😀, but I got a question following:
ECFMG certified with couple of Abstracts, both in Neuro Intensive Care,
would you care to give me some details? I'm working on a retrospective hemorrhagic stroke study and a case report myself and would like to know how I am doing 😳

By all means, go for it! People have matched with lesser credentials you know 🙂

Not ALL neuro programs are univ. based - just some off the top of my head are: Kaiser Perm in LA, UTMB Austin, Henry Ford, Methodist in Houston. These are community programs with university affiliation or just community programs.
