My PD was telling me recently that some hospitals now have Neurologist Hospitalist positions. Anyone know more about this?

I think he means Neuro critical care people, or another term is neurointensivists.

I think that is one track to be a neuro hospitalist, but not the only one. a neuro hospitalist is also coming to mean someone who runs a neuro consult svc(or any inpt svc) exclusively and doesn't really want to have a clinic. I actually dont think you need any additional fellowship to do this, but it would probably be a niche field and you would have to either carve your own path for it or find a place that is already receptive to it. Also probably someone who wants to do a lot of teaching if in academics.

No, she was referring to hospitalist jobs -- different from neurointensivists. These individuals work for a hospital and manage its neurology inpatients. There are increasing numbers of these positions for Internists, and I know that some hospitals have Pediatric hospitalists as well. Apparently, Neurology has also gotten into it.

Hmmm, this is right up my alley. I've always been really interested in neuro, but I prefer the hospital work environment and can't imagine endless days of clinic. I'm definitely going to be looking into this.

For fun, browse through some journals like JAMA and you will see that some neurology practices will hire inpatient neurologist as part of their group. Nothing fancy, no specialty, no fellowship, you just agree to do the consults for the practice all day long.
