Hi,
I am a final year IMG. Going to apply for residency next year. One place that I have my eyes set on is neurology at U of washington. The program is currently rated at no. 15. I have a 240 plus step 1 score and hope to improve on it in step 2. Also I shall have approx 3 publications by the time I graduate.
How competitive is the neuro program at U of Washington. What are the avg scores like. I realize the fact that being an IMG I would have to work extra hard. Also does this program have a reputation for taking IMGs?
So here's a list of my questions

What are the average scores for a residency at UW like?
How many publications on average do people applying for neuro here have?
Does the program take IMGs?

I would really like to hear your take on this.

any takers. I'd really like to know if I stand a reasonable chance of matching here.

It's not that we don't want to help. If there aren't answers on their website you are unlikely to find it here. Programs just don't share those facts! For the broad trends, get the data on the NRMP website, for a given program you can (I guess) get the list of residents and Google Scholar them???

But regardless, you are going to do your best on Step 2 and try and get brilliant letters, et cetera. If someone tells you that your chances were 19% vs 30% vs 42%, would that really change your approach that much?

I know the uncertainty sucks, but that's life.

Narrative, what you say does make sense.
I was hoping someone who currently works at UW might give me a lo down on the competitiveness of the program and if it had a history of choosing IMGs.
I absolutely am in love with the city of seattle based on what Ive read about it. An avid trekker and outdoors fan myself.
Hoping I could match there as this would give me the opportunity to give time to both my loves, neurology and the outdoors 😉

Really appreciate your response Narrative.

The UW program has a reasonable number of IMG's (4). The recent expansion of the program from 15-18 residents has improved working conditions and made the program more competitive so it's hard to say what the averages will be this year. Narrative is correct. Your approach should be the same regardless of your perceived chances. Do some investigating and find out who writes the best LOR's especially amongst the Neuro faculty. That said a 240 Step I and 3 publications is a very good start. Work the outdoors thing into your personal statement if you can.

Where do you look to find a programs rating?
