I have been hearing about the size of the neurology residency program is an importatnt factor. Here are some of the things I heard.
1. Neurology program tends to be smaller and having a larger size (means 5 or more per year for adult neurology program) creates positive learnig experiences.
2. The size of neurology does indicate the vitality of the program. Specifically, avoid the program that had reduced program size within 5 years. Conversely, the program that had increased the size last 5 years has hhigher momentum and probably has more active teaching environment.
3. Some propgrams did disappear last two years due to lack of funding and government budget cuts. None of them were big programs.
4. Bigger program tends to have better reputation which wil lbe important for fellowship application.
5. Bigger program offers more opportunity for research and likelyhood that you will publish more papers via worjing other residents.
My conclusion is that I will be interested in programs with 5 or more residents per year. Love to hear our comments and thoughts.
