I want to know what are neurophysins . Are these carrier proteins that carry hormones from hypothalamus to post pituitary or they keep the hormones bound to themselves in the posterior pituitary before they are released into circulation?

Neurophysins are carrier proteins for OXYTOCIN and VASOPRESSIN.
They are polypeptides of about 10-kDa, synthesized in the HYPOTHALAMUS.
Neurophysin I is associated with oxytocin and neurophysin II is associated with vasopressin in their respective precursors and during transportation down the axons to the neurohypophysis.

Thanks. So neurophysins are manufactured and secreted from hypothalamus .Vasopressin and Oxytocin are bound to neurophysins in the post pituitary but when it is time to release these hormones into blood these proteins stay back?

Neurophysins are also secreted into the circulation along with oxytocin and vasopressin from the posterior hypothalamus as far as I know.
Also, came across a UWorld question not too long ago where it was asking where neurophysin was secreted, in reference to a diagram with the pituitary and hypothalamus and a few other structures shown..
